CT and sonographic Findings of Retroperitoneal Plasmacytoma: a case report

We describe herein an extramedullary plasmacytoma (EMP) in the retroperitoneal space, an uncommon manifestation of plasma cell tumor occurred in a rare site. Only a few cases have been reported in a search of English-language literature. In this report, the imaging appearances of the tumor in both computed tomography (CT) and sonography will be presented. With relevant laboratory data and histologic examination obtained from ultrasound-guided biopsy, a definitive diagnosis of EMP was made. Ext ramedullar y plasmacy toma (EMP) is a rare form of plasma cell neoplasms, as compared to the other two kinds of plasma cell tumors, solitary plasmacytoma of bone and multiple myeloma [1]. Most common sites of occurrence reported are in the upper respiratory tract followed by gastrointestinal tract, and remainders including genitourinary system, skin, lung, breast and retroperitoneum are relatively rare [2]. This report describes a patient with retroperitoneal plasmacytoma and its imaging appearance on CT and ultrasound.
